Wind-damage roof repair: what to do after a storm
High winds across West London and North Surrey routinely lift ridge tiles, slip slates, tear felt on flat roofs and pull lead flashing off chimneys. Acting in the first 48 hours stops a cosmetic problem becoming a ceiling-down problem.
What we typically see after a storm
Slipped or missing tiles (especially on older concrete-tile roofs), lifted or cracked ridge tiles where mortar bedding has failed, torn felt on flat roofs and outbuildings, displaced lead flashing around chimneys and parapets, and blocked or split gutters from blown debris.
What to do in the first 24 hours
From ground level, photograph anything visible — slipped tiles, debris, ceiling stains. Don't go on the roof. If water is actively coming in, contain it from inside (buckets, plastic sheeting over furniture) and turn off any affected electrics. Then call a local roofer for a temporary make-safe.
Temporary make-safe vs full repair
A make-safe (tarp, temporary felt patch, dry-fix ridge) buys you 2–6 weeks while a proper repair is scoped, materials sourced and (if needed) insurance signed off. We separate the two on the quote so insurers can see the emergency cost clearly.
Insurance reports
We provide photo-documented reports suitable for home insurers — cause, scope, materials and cost split between make-safe and permanent repair. Most claims we support are settled without dispute.
Areas we cover for storm callouts
Hampton, Hampton Hill, Twickenham, Teddington, Richmond, East Sheen, Kingston, Surbiton, Esher, Cobham, Walton-on-Thames and the wider TW/KT/SW postcodes. Typical response within the working week, faster for active leaks.
FAQs
For active leaks we aim for same-day or next-day make-safe across our core TW and KT patch. Full permanent repairs are typically scheduled within 1–2 weeks depending on materials.
Most home insurance policies cover storm damage subject to your excess. We provide a photo-documented report that insurers accept. We're happy to liaise directly with your insurer if needed.
We respond out-of-hours for genuine emergencies (active interior leaks). For non-emergency damage we book the next working day.
