Roof warranties and aftercare: what's actually covered
Three different things get called 'the warranty', and they protect against three different failures.
Workmanship guarantee
The contractor's own cover for installation defects. This is the one that matters most, because most roof failures are installation failures rather than product failures.
Manufacturer product warranty
Covers the material itself against defect. It usually requires installation to the manufacturer's specification, which is why the spec on the quote matters.
Insurance-backed guarantees
Third-party cover that survives if the original contractor ceases trading. Common on larger system installations; the terms vary considerably and are worth reading.
What typically voids cover
Later work by others on the same roof, mounting equipment through the covering, pressure washing, and applied coatings are the usual culprits.
Sensible aftercare
Clear the gutters, keep overhanging branches back, and look at the roof from the ground after every serious storm. That's most of it.
FAQs
We guarantee our workmanship, and pass on the relevant manufacturer product warranties for the systems we install. The terms are set out on the quote.
Yes, for the work carried out. A repair guarantee can't extend to the rest of an ageing covering we didn't install.
Fixings through the covering by another contractor can affect cover. Tell us beforehand and we'll advise on the detail.
