Roof insurance claims: how the process works

Storm damage is usually covered. Gradual deterioration usually isn't. Most disputed claims sit on that line, so evidence and wording matter.

Evidence first

Photograph what you can see safely from the ground and inside, note the date and the weather, and keep any debris. Evidence gathered before repair work carries far more weight than a description afterwards.

Make-safe versus permanent repair

Insurers expect you to mitigate further damage. A temporary make-safe is normally recoverable and should be quoted as a separate line from the permanent repair so the insurer can see both clearly.

The wear-and-tear exclusion

If the covering was already at the end of its life, insurers may argue the storm only revealed an existing defect. A clear report distinguishing storm-caused damage from pre-existing condition is what resolves this.

Loss adjusters

On larger claims an adjuster may attend. We're happy to meet them on site and walk through the scope, which usually shortens the process.

What we provide

A photo-documented report setting out cause, scope, materials and cost, split between emergency make-safe and permanent works.

FAQs

Will you deal with my insurer directly?

We can liaise with insurers and adjusters on the technical scope. The claim itself stays between you and your insurer.

Can I get the repair done before the insurer inspects?

Do the make-safe to prevent further damage, and photograph everything first. Hold the permanent repair until the claim position is clear where possible.

Does a claim need a specific report format?

Insurers generally want cause, extent, photographs and a costed scope. That's what we supply.
